meet our pastors
It is said that to lead, one must first know how to serve or to follow, and I am sure that most, if not all, will agree with me that our Pastors, Drs. Desmond and Marlene Murray are not only dedicated and committed servants of the Pentecostal Gospel Temple Ministries, Margate, but are and have been faithful servants of the Most High God. If we look back at their history, we see them serving in various capacities in several congregations. They serve with diligence in the Sunday School Departments, Men’s and Women’s Ministries, The Choir, Outreach and Benevolent Ministries, to name a few, at the Pentecostal Gospel Temple, 111 Windward Road, Kingston, Jamaica and several others in United States, including the Beulah Pentecostal Gospel Temple Ministries.

This they did without complaint, hesitation or reluctance. Quoting Abigail Adams, “Great necessities call forth great leaders,” a reality that became manifested in the lives of these two individuals, when an unfortunate chain of events saw them being elevated from the role of servants in God’s house, to leaders. Or so we thought.
The members of the Pentecostal Gospel Temple Ministries will tell anyone that dares to ask, if they have not already seen it for themselves, that our Pastors, leaders though they are, are God’s servants first and servants of the congregation that they lead with humility, dedication, selflessness and love. They ask for nothing and yet have given and continue to give their all to see the Kingdom of God advance.
As Pastor’s they ask nothing of anyone that they are not willing to give or do themselves. They have given of their time, their substance, their labor, and their services. They have opened up their hearts and their home to do what was needful and necessary, and truly hurt when there is a need that they cannot meet or a situation in which they cannot help. We have seen them don aprons and serve us a meal; we have seen them get towels and basins and wash the feet of their saints; we have seen them get busy with machetes and lawn mowers to clear the property and we have seen them with brooms, mops and other cleaning tools helping to get a Sanctuary ready for worship. You may question my constant use of the words ‘their’ and ‘they’ when I speak about them, but that cannot be helped. To see one is to see both and to know one is to know both. Our pastors walk as one and serve as one; two individuals, yet one unit, in the eyes of God, each other, this congregation and others who have been and are privileged to know them. Each not only complements the other but supports the other in whatever the undertaking.
Pastors’ Murray, I believe that I echo the sentiments of this congregation when I say that we have been truly blessed to have had your leadership and as we salute you today, we say thank you for your obedience to God; thank you for your dedicated and selfless service and thank you for your perseverance in fulfilling the vision of this assembly. Outstanding leaders appeal to the hearts of their followers, and you have truly found a place in ours. May God continue to bless you both, richly.
